I am honoured to serve as the new representative for The Maples in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. The Maples is a very diverse constituency with a number of linguistic groups, families with varied socio-economic backgrounds, and many, many hardworking people. It also represents a cultural mosaic of both newcomers to Canada and of more established families from elsewhere in the province who have chosen to make this part of the city their home.

As a community noted for its cultural and ethnic diversity, The Maples faces many unique challenges. Issues like immigration and the recognition of foreign qualifications are of paramount concern. But so are other important issues such as public safety, health, education and infrastructure, to just name a few. As your representative, I am determined to move The Maples forward on such important issues such as keeping our communities safe with more police officers, crown prosecutors and programs for young people such as the Maples Youth Activity Centre Lighthouse, improving our roads and highways, and enhancing immigration services by expanding the Provincial Nominee Program which has led to the highest levels of immigration in the past 50 years. I am pleased to say that The Maples enjoys the many benefits of immigration as immigrants help to fill skill shortages in an expanding economy while also enriching our social and cultural fabric.

The richness of that fabric is reflected in the people who reside in The Maples. As a representative of such a diverse constituency, I am dedicated to working with all groups and individuals to move our community forward.
